Enviromental Policy

Protecting the Wild Places We Explore

At Arete Exped, we believe that the natural environments we journey through are not just backdrops — they are sacred, living landscapes that deserve our deepest respect and protection. As expedition leaders, we see it as our responsibility to not only minimize our footprint, but to actively contribute to the preservation of these wild places for future generations.

Our Guiding Principles

We strictly follow Leave No Trace (LNT) principles on every expedition — from remote alpine zones to highland forests and desert trails. This includes:

  • Packing out all waste (including organic and hygiene-related items)
  • Using designated trails and campsites where available
  • Avoiding any damage to flora, fauna, or cultural heritage sites
  • Practicing responsible fire use or avoiding open fires altogether
  • Group Size Limits
We keep group sizes small to reduce environmental pressure and trail erosion.
  • Eco-Friendly Gear and Supplies
We prioritize biodegradable soaps, reusable containers, and sustainable sourcing for our expedition provisions.
  • Waste & Sanitation Protocols
On remote expeditions, we use portable toilet systems or dig catholes where permitted. Waste is packed out when required by regulations or when responsible disposal is unavailable.

Climate Conscious Travel

We recognize that travel and high-altitude expeditions have an environmental cost. Here’s how we work to reduce our carbon footprint

Arete Exped contributes to carbon offset initiatives for flights, vehicle transport, and logistics — and encourages guests to do the same.

We source food, equipment, and logistics services locally whenever possible to reduce transport emissions and support regional economies.

We plan transport routes to minimize unnecessary mileage and vehicle use without compromising safety or comfort.

Community and Conservation

We partner with conservation organizations and local stewards to contribute financially and logistically to their efforts. A portion of our profits go toward trail restoration, wildlife monitoring, and reforestation projects.

We see each expedition as a chance to deepen awareness. Our guides educate guests about local ecosystems, conservation challenges, and how they can make a positive impact — both on the trail and at home.

CONQUER + EXPLORE + UNLEASH

Our Promise

  • We will never commercialize a route or peak beyond what the ecosystem can support.
  • We will reassess our practices annually, incorporating feedback from conservation experts and our expedition communities.
  • We will lead by example, showing that world-class adventures and deep ecological respect are not just compatible — they are inseparable.

Your Role as a Guest

We invite all participants to join us in being stewards of the land. During your journey with Arete Exped, you will be asked to:

  • Follow low-impact travel practices
  • Participate in environmental briefings
  • Embrace minimalist packing and conscious consumption
  • Respect wildlife, people, and place
